※ Please read this PDF file, as the download includes a compressed archive of Win7zip. This archive contains a single file, so it is actually larger than 2 MB. We don’t have an explanation why the file size was increased for this installer.

※ Please be aware that this application is not a file viewer. It allows you to rearrange your desktop icons, just as a directory listing, by providing an icon list. It does not allow you to open your files.

※ Desktop Listview comes bundled with the configuration files. The configuration files are not touched or modified in any way.

※ Windows Explorer offers similar functionality, and thus, if you dislike Desktop Listview, you can try using it to rearrange your desktop icons.

※ As the application is based on the functionality of a file manager, you might notice that it doesn’t have all the icons that your default file manager has. For example, your default file manager has file open/save icons, whereas Desktop Listview has only icons for renaming, deleting and moving.

※ If the application does not work for you, just try it on a fresh install of Windows.

※ The application is updated regularly. We always try to keep the application up to date. You can either check for updates automatically, or you can manually check for updates by clicking on the tray icon of Desktop Listview.

※ Desktop Listview is not compatible with Windows Vista or later.

※ Microsoft points out that Desktop Listview doesn’t work properly when using the Virtualization feature in Windows Vista or later.

Windows XP, 7, Vista, 8, 10

EDIT:
I’ve edited the script and it is working much better in both desktop/list view. I’ve also added a new feature – when in list view, you can resize the desktop list, or move the entire thing to a different part of the desktop. You can also move the system tray icon (if you want).
You can download the updated version here:

It’s actually not the original script. I added the options ‘desktop mode’, ‘list view’,’system tray icon’ and’max width’ to the options.txt script included with the package. This is the only part of the script that is new.

This is an installer script, which includes the uninstall script, the application and the system tray icon. So, it should be run using the provided ‘installer.exe’ as its parameter.

Installing the script, will not only create the program itself, but also the system tray icon.

Please make sure to have the application installed first, so that the icons can be displayed and we don’t have to make a copy of them again.

That’s all. Enjoy!

UPDATE:

INSTALLATION
Download the executable.zip file from this link
Extract it to any folder of your choice
Copy the executable file to ‘C:\Program Files\Desktop Listview’ (or to any other folder that has ‘permissions’ to run from)
Run the install.exe, which should look like this:

It may take a while, depending on your internet connection speed, for the application to be installed. Once it’s done, you should be able to close the installer application.

UPDATE 2:
I’ve cleaned up the script and I’ve updated it to work with Windows 10.
Here is a link to the updated version:

===========
Desktop Listview is a small utility that allows you to arrange your desktop icons as a list. To launch it, right click the desktop or press win+R and type in the following command: « Desktop Listview.exe »
Desktop Listview is packed in a.zip archive and is licensed under the GNU General Public License. You can download the archive here:
The software comes with no installation wizard, so you will have to manually extract the contents of the.zip archive into your hard disk.
The application runs at Windows startup and displays the desktop icons as a list. To deactivate it, double click the system tray icon and to re-enable it, do the same.
Listview mode for the desktop icons is the default configuration for the program. You can configure the application to show icons in another mode by selecting « Configure Desktop Listview » from the program’s context menu.
It is recommended to run the program with administrator permissions. However, Desktop Listview might not need any extra permissions to launch itself.
It is possible to drag and drop files from the Desktop Listview window onto other applications.
You can also configure the application to set « Show desktop icons » at a specific position.
You can delete, rename, or move the system tray icon of Desktop Listview by right clicking on it.
If you want to uninstall Desktop Listview, use the following command at the command prompt: « C:\Program Files\Desktop Listview\Uninstall.exe ».
Desktop Listview’s installer adds an entry to your taskbar’s context menu, allowing you to instantly launch the program.
You can also manually add the application to your list of desktop shortcuts.
You can also show « Desktop Listview » on your desktop. This should allow you to access the program with a single mouse click.
You can manually change the system tray icon’s icon by right clicking it and selecting « Change Icon » from the menu.
