I’m trying to create a container hierarchy of views and data. I want the user to be able to create a new View. Create a new View would create a container and child view with the user’s choice of which data to insert into that view. The data is stored in a data structure, so to create a new View, the user would call the CreateView method and pass in the name of the container (string) and the type of data that will go into the container (such as string, bool, etc.).
Should I be creating a class for the view and then creating a factory function for the view so I can do this? My main concern is that if a CreateView method is created in the Factory class, then how will the user call it? Should I be putting the factory class directly into the View class so that the user can access it with a public function or just leave the factory class outside of the View class?
You can create a factory class which will be responsible for instantiating your views. It’ll have a single method CreateView(string viewType, params object data). You will then use reflection to call the factory function to create a view.
The best thing is to create classes for your views and make them inheritance-friendly (so that you can create subclasses of your views).
